Empower Chattanooga Outreach Coordinator Empower Chattanooga, a program of green|spaces, teaches residents of East Chattanooga, Highland Park, Alton Park, and East Lake low cost and no cost ways to reduce their utility bill. These neighborhoods use an average of 43% more energy per square foot, in the winter months, to power their homes. To date, participants in the Empower program save an average of $400 per year simply through education and implementation of these low cost and no cost measures. The Empower program strives to promote and strengthen partners within our partner networks. Creating mutually beneficial relationships amongst organizations is a priority while strengthening our partner networks.

Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement – Knoxville Field Office AmeriCorps Member
Program SpecificsThis position will be overlaying current Abandoned Mine Land (AML) inventory over LiDAR imagery by using ArcMap 10.2.1, along with field work to verify AML. Additionally, this position will catalog tabular and GIS data found in mining permits to develop a table capturing key permit data such as permitted and surface disturbance acres, coal seams, and coordinates.

AmeriCorps VISTA New Vision Renewable Energy (Philippi, WV)
The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will help build the capacity to mentor youth and create a sustainable development structure that will help our organization thrive. This will include helping recruit and train community youth mentors to assist with the renewable energy training course. VISTA will help create organizational solutions through outreach in Barbour County and the expansion of community maker space to ensure its' sustainability in the community.
New Vision Renewable Energy is a West Virginia based nonprofit helping community and youth development organizations embrace renewable energy solutions, especially coal mining communities who are struggling to find sustainable solutions. Our goal is to tap into the innovation and production capacity of community members and design a plan for hand crafted solar powered LED lighting solutions for families and communities in the US and abroad.
Philippi ranks at the bottom tier of our state and nation's economic statistics and problems abound, solutions are very scarce, and VISTA member can help build the capacity of our organization. The challenge of being a community based renewable energy organization in a coal state that has experienced rapid decline in this economic climate has made our work even more important, so that we can contribute to providing economic solutions in West Virginia.

2016 East Kentucky Hemp Harvester
Job Details: Help is needed to hand harvest/collect our 2016 Industrial Hemp crop. We have sites in 4 counties (Floyd, Knott, Pike and Magoffin) and the work will vary from, cutting the stalks from the field, gathering to load on a trailer, removing the tops and leaves, placing the tops and leaves on trays to dry and placing the stalks in rows. You must be in good physical condition, wear reasonable work clothes and footwear, be able to do repetitive movement, have reliable transportation and enjoy being outside in varying degrees of weather. Pay is $9 an hour, with a typical day consisting of at least 8 hours. Workers will be paid as independent contractors and must fill out a W-9 form and HF Farms liability waiver. The work will take approximately 10 days.

Kentucky Natural Lands Trust Seeks Forest Steward
Kentucky Natural Lands Trust (KNLT) is looking for an individual to join our staff as a Forest Steward. The Steward will perform management, upkeep, and education services related to KNLT’s forest properties and partner nature preserves.
This position will conduct
trail maintenance and monitoring at KNLT and partners preserves
within the Pine Mountain Wildlands Corridor. The Steward will provide educational, outreach and development services including assisting with hikes, events, and informational pieces such
as social media posts and maps. This position will act as liaison between KNLT and the local community and will recruit and manage volunteers. The Steward will assist with conducting biological inventories for management plans and developing monitoring reports for preserves.

Job Opening: Funders Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FCYO) Program Officer
FCYO seeks a visionary and knowledgeable candidate with a commitment to supporting youth-led social justice to fill a new Program Officer (PO) position. The PO will co-design and lead a new grantmaking initiative, provide oversight to an annual capacity building program, and lead some of our Youth CORE field infrastructure activities including our webinar series and Learning and Exchange Fund. The PO will also support other FCYO activities including fundraising, administration, and funder advocacy. The ideal candidate brings a strong analysis of social justice issues, experience with the youth organizing field, some experience with philanthropy, strong writing skills, and the ability to work in a team and independently. The PO will work closely with FCYO’s Executive Director and other staff members. FCYO staff work remotely, so the PO can be based anywhere in the US. Some travel is required.

LOCATION: Matewan, WV
This position will enhance heritage tourism and educational opportunities in historic Matewan and Mingo County. The member will serve approximately 40 hours a week with some special events during evenings and weekends at the museum located at 336 Mate Street. Moderate travel expenses will be reimbursed by the site for travel associated with researching. To make the transition to southern West Virginia easier, this position has housing available with one of the board members and her husband in nearby Meador, WV. The member is expected to be passionate about preserving southern West Virginia coalfield history.
